In 2016, the Historic Trust Building was transformed back into the center of entrepreneurial activity in downtown Durham by NSV’s principals through a predecessor business. Sitting mostly vacant for over 20 years, the Trust Building was fully leased before the $8.3 million redevelopment was completed. It is now home to Durham businesses that reflect the rich history of the building.
Built in 1904, the Trust Building was the tallest office building in North Carolina at the time and is notable as Durham’s first multi-story office building with the city’s first elevator. The historic redevelopment returned the 41,000 SF building to Class A office space for Discover Durham (formerly the Durham Convention & Visitors’ Bureau), American Underground—one of the Triangle’s most well-known startup coworking spaces, and Windsor Circle—a Durham-based ecommerce software company.
